Site Description
This station opened in 2001 with both a Down platform and Up island platform, the outer edge of which was not used. This was later changed with the realignment of the Up line to serve the outer face, with the inner face being converted to a north facing turnback siding. The station is adjacent to the inner section of the Grand Canal Harbour (on the Down side), the canal itself is crossed at the northern end of the station. Beyond the canal on the same side is the site of a former loco depot that was unnecessarily demolished to permit the station to be built. The metal beams and low level wall at the entrance to the station are all that remains of this building. The site of the D&KR works is on the Up side but is now occupied by offices and no trace remains. The site was originally Coffey's distillery and Dublin distillers paid part of the cost of the site to eliminate the risk of competition starting up again! There was a signal cabin here until 1936. South of the station on the Down side is the remains of a gasholder in which residential accommodation has been built.Photographs
